Prostate Cancer

Fall is beginning to fall on Alaska; temperatures drop while hunting season heats up. September is filled with fun activities like hunting, fly-fishing opportunities and football however, I’m going to encourage you to participate in one activity that’s not fun but important.
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a disease that one in every six men will be diagnosed with and the second most common cancer of men in the U.S. However, it’s 99 percent treatable if detected early.
Awareness months are about education and inspiring action. With this in mind, when September calls, considering calling your doctor to get checked for prostate cancer if you’re a man over the age of 40.

World Alzheimer’s Month
September 21

Whether it’s a parent, grandparent or relative, most people know someone affected by Alzheimer’s. Today, 5.4 million Americans have Alzheimer’s, which is the six-leading cause of death in the United States. With millions of people either living with Alzheimer’s or watching family members struggle with the disease, it’s important to understand.
September is World Alzheimer’s Month. Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia and causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Although it’s not a part of routine aging it usually shows up in people age 65 and older. When people suffering from Alzheimer’s can no longer care for themselves, family members must make difficult choices about care options.
Midnight Sun Home Care wants families to understand they’re not alone. Many of our clients are living with varying stages of Alzheimer’s and our experienced caregivers understand how to help. So, if a member of your family or someone else you know is struggling with Alzheimer’s give us a call and we’ll figure out the best way we can help.

Flu season arrived early this year! Elderly people are especially at risk for complications. Stay safe and get a flu shot by the end of October. We can even help by giving you a ride.
